Tom Clare’s charges have already won the Ulster Minor ‘B’ championship this year, and now have their eyes destined on All-Ireland glory, however it took a big performance to grind out a 0-9 to 0-8 win over Roscommon last Saturday.

“The scoreline probably doesn’t look great, but we could have easily put another 2-6 or 2-7 on the board. We hit the post, and their keeper made a few good saves,’ said the Donegal manager.

“We were probably lucky to get through in the end. Roscommon gave our lads an awful beating in the minors last year, and you could see that it was only really midway through the second half that the boys started to believe that they could beat them.”

Eddie Lynch was the star for Donegal last week pointing seven frees and another big performance will be expected from him this weekend in Clones.

Meath will be formidable opponents for Donegal and they played in this year’s Leinster Minor Hurling championship, where they were eliminated by Laois.

“We don’t know much about them, but they’ll be handy enough. Meath’s hurling style would be rough, the same as Roscommon’s and the lads dealt with that ok last week,” said Clare.

Full back Donail McLochlainn will miss the game with a busted finger, but Donegal are boosted by the return of Jamie Brennan, who will be back in the panel after missing last week’s game due to his involvement with Finn Harps in the Galway Cup.
