MINISTER of State for Public Health, Wellbeing and National Drugs Strategy, Frank Feighan TD will be visiting Donegal today to launch the Sláintecare Healthy Communities Programme.
The minister is set to launch the programmes in Ionad Naomh Pádraig, Gaoth Dobhair and Illies Community Centre, Buncrana.
Sláintecare Healthy Communities Programme (SHCP) is an interagency plan to improve health and wellbeing of designated communities across the country.
The aim of the programme is to ensure the local communities selected have access to the full enhanced health and wellbeing programme.
A core group of services will be established in each area to support people’s wellbeing within that community, providing better access to the range of services needed to help improve and promote healthier lifestyle behaviours.
The Department of Health, Donegal County Council and the Local Community Development Committee have agreed to work in partnership with a range of stakeholders to coordinate interventions that address the social determinants of health which are the conditions in which we are born, live, grow, work and age in.
The minister will be in Gaoth Dobhair from 10am to 11:30am and Buncrana from 2pm to 3:30pm.
