Milford GAA launches Club Development Draw

Milford GAA Club has launched its Club Development Draw as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations.

The initiative aims to raise funds to ensure that Gaelic games continue to thrive in the area for generations to come, with the development of new pitches and an indoor area. Tickets will be on sale for 11 weeks and the draw will be held on Saturday 30th December 2023.

The Club Development Draw offers a substantial prize pool of €70,000, so supporters of the draw are in with a chance to win valuable prizes while contributing to a meaningful cause.

The top prize is a BMW 330e M Sport from Colm Quinn Motors, while second prize is a holiday voucher from Globe Travel worth €3,000.

A two-night stay in the Iveagh Gardens Hotel in Dublin, plus €500 spending money, a two-night stay in Downings Hotel with a round of golf at Portsalon and an overnight trip to a Manchester United game are also up for grabs. Tickets are priced at one for €25, three for €50 and seven for €100.

Launching the draw, club President Fergus Friel urged the local community to rally behind the Club Development Draw, emphasising its significance for the club’s future: “As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, the Club Development Draw represents the next step in future-proofing the club and our commitment to the community. We ran our first Development Draw in 2021 to raise the funds to purchase the site adjacent to the existing facilities.

“We’re now looking to raise funds towards the next phase of the project which is the development of a new playing pitch and an all-weather training pitch.

“We’re calling on our local community to support our Club Development Draw and be a part of our plans. Your support will guarantee future generations access to excellent facilities, giving them the best opportunities to excel in their sport and bring even greater success to the club.”

Some of those who founded the club in 1983 attended the launch, including Pat Curley, Fergus Friel, Seamus Durkan, Sean McCormack, and Aodh McCormack.

Club chairperson Aodh McCormack said: “CLG Baile na nGallóglach serves the communities of Rathmullan, Milford, and Ramelton, and we have seen a significant increase in membership over the last number of years across the three towns of the parish, particularly among female players.

“Our current facilities are struggling to cater for the demand, so this development is crucial to accommodate the growing membership, which now includes both male and female teams spanning all age groups, from U7 to U18, and four adult teams. In addition, the training pitch will ensure we have somewhere to train our teams over the winter months, as we currently hire other facilities for this. The second playing pitch will help alleviate the pressure on our current pitch, as during the Spring/Summer period there could be games on it every day of the week. Tickets for the draw are available online and from any committee member, so don’t hesitate to sign up and secure your tickets early.”
