Milford finding their feet in Division 1

Kane Barrett in action for Milford against Bundoran last week

MILFORD manager Danny O’Donnell is content with how his team are performing at the midway point in their maiden campaign in Division 1.

The Moyle View Park outfit defeated Bundoran last week to complete a double over the ‘Star of the Sea’ men, and they have also recorded a victory over Glenswilly, and picked up a draw on the road against St Michael’s.

With the exception of a nine-point defeat at the hands of Kilcar in Towney, they have been reasonably competitive in every game they have played in the league.

O’Donnell’s side face Four Masters this week in Tir Chonaill Park, and a win there would leave them in a healthy position, as they try to retain their top flight status.

“It’s a completely new experience for us,” said O’Donnell, who is in his second season in charge.

“The club have never played in Division 1 before, so we’re just taking it game-by-game.

“That’s how we approached Division 2 last year and it served us well.

“The first phase of our season was all about finding our feet, and we’ll look to drive it on now over the next six weeks, and then get ready for the championship.

“We have seven points from our first nine league games, which isn’t bad, but we’ll have to double that at least to stay up.

“We’re in sixth position at the minute, but the league is very congested and there’s not much between third and ninth.

“We’ll be content as long as we finish eighth or above and stay in Division 1, but our main goal is the championship.”
