FOR the players of Milford and Burt, Sunday’s Intermediate Championship decider will be a novel event.

Burt have never contested an Intermediate decider, while Milford have only once claimed the Cathal McLaughlin Cup back in 1992, before any of the current panel made their senior bows.

However, Milford have plenty of Intermediate know-how in their management team.

Their manager Danny O’Donnell won the competition twice as a player, and in 2013, led his home club to victory as bainisteoir.

His selector Paul Grier won the Louth Intermediate title while playing for Dundalk Gaels, while Aodh McCormick was captain and trainer of Milford back in 1992.

“The three of us have done it before and hopefully that will stand to us on Sunday,” said O’Donnell, who became Milford manager at the start of the season.

“We know what it feels like to win the Intermediate and we would like the boys to experience that.

“But it won’t be easy and we will have to keep our focus at all times. Nothing is handed easily to you in Championship football, so we are expecting a very tough game.”
