DONEGAL light-middleweight Michael ‘Owen’ McLaughlin recorded the eighth win of his professional career in Boston last weekend.
At the Dorchester Armory on Saturday night, McLaughlin defeated Pedro Gonzalez. McLaughlin won a technical decision over the Gloucester man, after four rounds the the scheduled six.
The Inishowen southpaw was well on top in the headline fight on a show promoted by Martin Grealish. McLaughlin had the superior skill set and kept Gonzalez at bay, showing a good ability to switch to orthodox and have his opponent dumfounded.
An accidental clash of heads in the fourth round opened up wounds over both of McLaughlin’s eyes and the Donegal man was unable to continue. When the fight went to the cards, 30-year-old McLaughlin was scored the 40-36 winner with all the judges to take his record now to 8-1-1 from his ten contests.
