MICHAEL Gallagher is through to the quarter-finals of a multi-nations tournament in Anapa, Russia.
The Finn Valley ABC heavyweight has reached the last eight at the VII International Youth Tournament, the ‘Nikolay Pavlyukov Memorial’.
Gallagher was the comfortable victor over Latvian opponent Artyoms Kolesnikov in the last sixteen of the heavyweight division at the Volley Grad Sports Centre.
The seventeen-year old Kinletter man recently won his tenth Irish title as he overcame Gary Maughan in the Open Youth Championships and is in Russia with the Irish Youth squad, who have been at the Black Sea venue since last Wednesday.
They are in preparation for the AIBA World Youth Championships, which are being held in April in Bulgaria. The World Youths, in which Gallagher will be competing, are the only qualifiers for the Youth Olympics later in the year.
