MICHAEL Gallagher was honoured by the IABA on Saturday night at the association’s annual awards night at the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel in Dublin.
Gallagher was presented with an Olympic Achiever Award following his winning of a bronze medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China in August.
The Finn Valley heavyweight defeated Korea’s Kim Jin-Nyong in the bronze medal box-off.
The Kinletter man, a ten-time Irish champion, had been beaten by Cuba’s World champion Yordan Hernandez, but defeated Belarusian Maksim Kazlou and then swatted aside Jin-Nyong to return with bronze.
Gallagher qualified for the Youth Olympics thanks to a win over Netherlands’ Thomas Oomen at the World Youth Championships in Sofia.
