MICHAEL Canning has been appointed as Glenswilly’s new senior team manager.
Canning was ratified at the club’s reconvened AGM on Saturday evening. Canning had been assistant manager to Gary McDaid in 2014 when Glenswilly reached the Donegal SFC final. Glenswilly lost to St Eunan’s in the final and McDaid has joined the backroom team of new Donegal manager Rory Gallagher.
Canning was also a part of McDaid’s backroom team in 2013 when Glenswilly won the Championship and reached the Ulster final.
Glenswilly are one of eight senior clubs to have a change of manager for the 2015 campaign.
Only county champions St Eunan’s, Dungloe, Naomh Muire, Glenfin and Sean MacCumhaills have retained the same manager while Four Masters, Termon and Gaoth Dobhair have yet to confirm their managers.
So far, though, eight other senior clubs have announced new bosses. Former Antrim manager Liam Bradley takes over at Malin with John McConnell (Ardara), Martin Regan (Naomh Conaill), John Paul Gallagher (Cloughaneely), Eddie Harkin (St Michael’s), Michael Molloy (Kilcar) and Mark Boyle (Killybegs) all picking up the baton this year.
