Met Éireann issues snow and ice warning for Donegal

DONEGAL is one of five counties included in a Moderate Weather Warning for snow and ice for later tonight.

The alert message issued by Met Éireann is warning of wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow, with some modest accumulations in places, especially on high ground.

Motorists are being advised of hazardous travelling conditions and icy stretches.

The affected areas are Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim and Sligo.

The warning comes into effect from midnight tonight to 12 mid-day on Thursday.

Earlier, Donegal County Council confirmed that the council’s gritting service will be in operation tonight.

All designated Donegal Winter Maintenance Routes will be gritted from 9pm.  

The gritters will be deployed again from 6am on Wednesday.
