Met Éireann has this morning issued a Moderate Weather Warning for low-temperature for Donegal.
The forecaster is predicting very cold nights up ahead with widespread frost and ice and snow predicted.
Temperatures will be struggling to get above freezing point during the day and Met Éireann says the potential impacts of the cold snap could result in hazardous travelling conditions, icy patches and in some cases, travel disruption.
Today’s temperatures have been relatively mild so far, but Met Éireann’s Moderate Weather Warning is valid from 5pm on Sunday evening and runs until midday on Thursday.
Amid very cold temperatures on Saturday, Donegal County Council’s gritting service was deployed at 3pm on Saturday and again at 8pm last evening.
A number of sporting and community events were cancelled on Saturday night because of the predicted poor weather.
There are Status Orange Snow and Ice warnings in place for different parts of the country and parts of the Midlands and the East of the country appear to have been hit by the worst of the weather.
Up to 30,000 people are without water across counties Kerry, Wexford, Kilkenny, Carlow and Limerick as a result of adverse weather, according to Uisce Éireann.
And there are power outages in the Midlands impacting on 28,000 homes and businesses.
