Mairead McGuinness, Fine Gael MEP for Donegal and Vice-President of the European Parliament, will be guest speaker at an AIB sponsored agricultural seminar tomorrow evening, Thursday, April 20 in Ballybofey, where she will give an outlook on the agri-food sector, the challenges and opportunities.
The MEP, a member of the Agriculture and Environment Committees of the European Parliament, will talk of the need for Ireland to lead the way in sustainable, climate friendly agriculture using sound science and advisory services at farm level.
She will address the issues facing milk, beef and sheep farming in particular and she will talk about the importance of Rural Development programmes and the need to ensure a smooth transition to the new Basic Payment Scheme under the CAP.
“I’m concerned that farmers who farm in difficult terrain do not suffer unnecessary fines and penalties because of uncertainty around land eligibility,” she said.
It takes place at 7.30 pm in the Villa Rose Hotel.
