Mental health charity reminds Leaving Certs that ‘you are more than grades’

AS thousands of students across Donegal and the country brace themselves for Leaving Cert results, national mental health charity Turn2Me is urging families to keep things in perspective.

The charity’s key message is that exam results do not define a person’s worth or future success.

The days leading up to results day can be fraught with stress and anxiety, with students often feeling the weight of expectations from themselves, their peers, and their families.

Turn2Me CEO Fiona O’Malley acknowledges this intense pressure but stresses that the Leaving Cert is just one step in a much larger journey.

“It’s important for students to remember that their Leaving Cert results are not the final word on their abilities or potential,” Fiona said.

“There are many paths to success, and this is just one step along the way.”

Turn2Me is offering free online counselling and peer support to help students manage the stress that comes with exam results.

The charity encourages students to seek support if they feel overwhelmed or disappointed.

“You are more than a set of grades,” she emphasised.

“While exams are important, they don’t define who you are or what you can achieve in life.

“While exams are important, they do not define who you are or what you can achieve in life. It’s okay to feel disappointed if you didn’t get the results you were hoping for, but it’s also important to keep things in perspective and know that there are many opportunities ahead.”

Turn2Me’s free mental health services, available online, offer a confidential space for students and their families to discuss their feelings.

The charity’s professional counsellors are ready to help young people build resilience and explore their future options.

“Your mental health is just as important as any academic achievement,” O’Malley added.

“We encourage students to take care of themselves during this time and remember that their value extends far beyond their exam results.”

Students and families can access these services by visiting Turn2Me’s website at www.turn2me.ie.
