Megan is over ‘whole of the moon’ at Waterboys praise

MEGAN Nic Ruairí says she was stunned when her rendition of ‘The Whole of the Moon’ received the thumbs up from Waterboys’ front man Mike Scott.

Megan, a member of the famous west Donegal folk group Clann Mhic Ruairí, posted her version of the classic to Twitter recently.

It was quickly flagged up to The Waterboys who wasted no time in applauding it.

“Sounds like a great version,” replied Mike Scott before sharing the Gaoth Dobhair musician’s take on the Ivor Novello winning hit with his 30,000 followers.

A delighted Megan told the Donegal News, “I was so shocked, I couldn’t believe it.

“What happened was I put it up on Twitter and Jimmy Stafford tagged him into it. He retweeted it but he thought the clip was just a preview and he asked when the entire version was coming out. So I sent him the whole thing.”

In what could turn out to be something very special, the rock legends have requested a copy of Megan Nic Ruairí’s soon to be released EP, ‘Made of Sin’.

The five-track collection was completed just prior to Christmas in Dublin’s Windmill Lane recording studio. Due to the pandemic a release date has yet to be confirmed but Megan hopes to have it out in time for the summer season.

On the possibility of a link up with The Waterboys, the west Donegal singer and songwriter added, “It would be brilliant. Even a support slot with them would be a dream come true.”
