FURTHER calls have been made to urgently carry out traffic calming measures on the busy N13, with one local councillor claiming that “sooner or later there is going to be a head on collision there”.
Cllr Donal Coyle shared many motorists’ fears with Donegal County Council’s Road and Transport division at last week’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
He explained that the issue at the Cullion Road and Listillion Road Junctions is caused by cars overtaking whilst other cars are slowing down or sitting stationary in the box between two lanes.
He suggested the implementation of a traffic island to prevent people recklessly overtaking or a slip lane to facilitate traffic turning off the National Primary Road.
In response to Cllr Coyle a council spokesperson confirmed that his concerns would be referred to the council’s Road Safety Engineer to be reviewed.
The calls come after a concerned resident of the Lurgybrack area contacted the Donegal News to highlight her terrifying “near misses” at the junction.
She made calls for ‘no overtaking’ signs to be installed at the busy Letterkenny junction after she was left “bumper to bumper” with a car coming the other way.
This is just one of many occasions where this particular resident was seconds away from a collision.
“I just can’t understand the mentality of people that they think they can overtake and get back in front of the vehicle again when they see you sitting in a lane,” she said.
