Meeting to discuss latest blow to Lifford hospital

A public meeting will be held in Lifford this Thursday evening to discuss the HSE’s decision to end long term care at the town’s hospital.

The meeting has been called by the Friends of Lifford Hospital campaign group after they were informed that the two remaining long stay patients are to be moved either to a residential home or to St Joseph’s Hospital in Stranorlar early next month.

The move has deeply angered the committee who say they were kept in the dark about the HSE’s plans.

Campaign group chair John Quinn said, “We asked several weeks ago for a meeting but they said we would have to wait until the second week in January. We now know why, because this news was coming and they did not want to sit across the table from a very angry community.”

The public meeting will be held in the Social Centre, Lifford, on Thursday evening at 8pm. An invitation is extended to the entire community and in particular elected members and TDs.
