Meeting in Kerrykeel over sewage scheme plans

A PUBLIC information meeting is being held in Kerrykeel this evening when Irish Water will present plans for a new sewage scheme for the area.

A new wastewater treatment plant will be built in an effort to stop untreated wastewater being discharged into the Burnside River which flows into Mulroy Bay. Irish Water is working in partnership with Donegal County Council on the project.

The meeting is taking place at the Old School House in Kerrykeel from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and the public are invited to attend to meet the project team and learn more about Irish Water’s plans to progress the project.

A spokesperson for Irish Water said: “The practice of discharging untreated wastewater into the Burnside River is unsustainable. The new wastewater treatment plant will bring benefits to Kerrykeel in terms of health, integrity of the environment and improved water quality for all. “Cleaner water will enhance Kerrykeel’s amenity value and act as a platform for social and economic development.

The new pipes, pumping station and wastewater treatment plant have all been sized to accommodate an increase in the local population and will facilitate future growth in the area. “The project will also ensure that the water quality standards set down by regulatory bodies will be achieved.”
