THE ANNUAL Budget meeting of Donegal County Council has been adjourned for an hour this morning in a mark of respect following the death of Cllr Gerry McMonagle’s mother.
Mary McMonagle (nee Smyth) passed away on Wednesday and her funeral mass is due to take place in Creggan in Derry on Saturday morning.
Party colleague Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher began by offering her condolences and proposed the adjournment.
“On behalf of our party I would like to extend our condolences on the recent death of Mary,” said Cllr Gallagher.
Cllr Ciaran Brogan spoke on behalf of the Fianna Fail party offering his condolences to the whole family and said his thoughts and prayers are with them this morning. Cllr Martin Harley spoke on behalf of the Fine Gael party offering his sympathies to Cllr McMonagle and his four brothers and three sisters. Cllr Michael McBride offered his condolences on behalf of the independents and Chief Executive, Seamus Neely also spoke on behalf of the Council staff.
The meeting is expected to resume in the County House in Lifford at 11.30.
