Designers, artists, and makers from across Donegal will gather for a unique showcase of Donegal’s finest crafts at a ‘Meet the Makers’ event in Lough Eske Castle on Friday, October 20.
Organised by Local Enterprise Office Donegal, the Meet the Makers event will also mark the launch of a new “Meet the Makers Donegal – Craft Directory” which showcases the diverse range of makers living and working in Donegal.
This event is open to the public, and Brenda Hegarty, Head of Enterprise for Donegal, is encouraging everyone to come out and support Donegal’s makers: “Donegal holds a special place in the heart of Irish culture, and our Meet the Makers Craft Showcase and Directory highlights the diverse realms of Donegal craft, from intricate ceramics to richly woven textiles and beyond.
I encourage people to come along to this event and support the dedication, heritage, and innovation that define the craft culture in Donegal.
By doing so, you are not only supporting our local economy but also preserving the essence of what makes Donegal so unique.
With so many beautiful gift ideas available for purchase at the event, you’ll be spoilt for choice, with something for everyone’s Christmas list.”
As part of the event, MC Noel Cunningham will host a panel discussion with the Donegal Tweed Association and hear about their efforts to secure PGI status for Donegal Tweed.
Grace Korbel, Assistant Head of Enterprise Donegal said: “Within Donegal, a vibrant community of creative entrepreneurs has thrived, from skilled weavers to visionary designers and artists, and our Meet the Makers event is your chance to meet them.
Our new Craft Directory is a celebration of Donegal’s craft legacy and its future.
It proudly promotes Donegal’s craft sector, showcasing the enduring spirit of creativity and the dedication to preserving our unique cultural heritage. Attendance to this event is free, but places are limited, so we encourage everyone to secure their spot by booking in advance.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with talented makers, explore their work, and gain insights into the enduring partnership between tradition and innovation in Donegal’s craft community.
To ensure you don’t miss out on this unique celebration of Donegal’s craft sector, advance booking is essential.
