Medal function open to public

DONEGAL GAA will host a function to present their senior footballers with their Ulster Championship medals in November, and members of the public will be able to purchase tickets for the event.

There was some controversy last year as an intimate ceremony was held to present the senior footballers with their Ulster SFC and Division 2 League medals, while the county hurlers picked up their Nickey Rackard Cup medals on the same evening.

Some senior officials from the County Board were in attendance at the event but clubs were not granted the opportunity to buy tickets.

That stance was criticised at the October County Committee meeting.

There is to be a different approach this year and the function will be held in the Abbey Hotel on Saturday, November 1.

The event is expected to be well supported as clubs and supporters look to toast the senior footballers who lifted the Anglo Celt Cup with a dramatic one-point win over Armagh in May, and progressed all the way through to the All-Ireland Final.

There will also be a number of club awards handed out on the night.

Meanwhile, delegates from Ulster counties have unanimously backed a return of the pre-season competitions in the province for 2026, namely the Dr McKenna Cup in football and the Conor McGurk Cup in hurling.
