The Moville clubman enjoyed great success since taking over at the helm last year and led the county to their first every Ulster Senior Ladies Championship in July.

Donegal were subsequently defeated by Armagh in the All-Ireland quarter-final, and McLaughlin has decided that he doesn’t have the time to commit to another year in charge.

“I have thought long and hard about the decision since the Armagh game,” he said.

“It had nothing to do with that defeat to Armagh or anything like that, it’s just the sheer amount of time that you have to give to the job.

“I just felt that I wasn’t in a position to give that time next year and to be fair to everyone involved, I have decided to step down.

“I feel it is better for me to make the decision now and allow the County Board to get a new man or woman into the role early.”
