DOWNINGS midfielder Caoimhe McLaughlin admitted her side made ‘tough work’ of their Ulster Final against Warrenpoint on Saturday but that mattered little as she basked in the glory with her family on the pitch afterwards.
McLaughlin got through a mountain of work in the middle of the field.
“It was a good game but we made tough work of it all the same.
“We started off well and they came back at us but we came through.
“It was a big loss having Aoibhinn (O’Connell) out. We could have been doing with her in midfield but we did well considering she’s probably been our strongest player all season.”
McLaughlin felt her side were well placed when they hit the Warrenpoint net but they couldn’t get the one or two points they needed in normal time to kill off the contest.
“I was confident to be fair.
“But when they got on top of us fairly quickly I was reconsidering what I had previously thought.
“We put our bodies on the line.
“We have been practising our defending in training and protecting the ‘D’ and it worked out for us in the end.”
