FORMER Donegal star Martin McHugh believes his county aren’t in bad shape heading into the 2022 NFL campaign, but says they have work to do on their defensive structure.
McHugh, who famously played an integral role in Donegal’s maiden All-Ireland success, is now a GAA analyst, and has seen Declan Bonner’s team in each of their four games to date in 2022.
The Kilcar man spoke with the national media on Wednesday at a press event to mark Allianz’ long association with the National Football League, and the scribes from the capital were keen to hear how things were looking in the North West.
“I think with Stephen Cluxton not playing now, we probably have for me the best goalkeeper in Ireland now and that’s a big plus.
“With the way the game is going, the mobility of the goalkeeper is important and we are very lucky to have Shaun Patton there.
“I think our defence definitely has to improve. It would be great if Neil McGee can come back.”
