Motherwell captain Carl McHugh insists that his side won’t just be there to make up the numbers when they play Celtic in the Betfred Scottish League Cup Final on Sunday.
The Lettermacaward native has made a good start to the season with Motherwell, and they earned their final spot with a victory over Rangers in the last four.
Their prize for that victory is a final meeting with the all-conquering Celtic side, who are unbeaten in 64 games in Scotland.
However, Motherwell are motoring well themselves, and sit in fifth position in the league just five points off second place.
It’s a tough ask but McHugh believes they can cause an upset on Sunday at Hampden Park.
“It’s an exciting week getting ready for the final,” McHugh told the Donegal News.
“We had an important match with Aberdeen last week, and we got a great result.
“Now we turn our attention to the final and we’ll spend training this week coming up with a plan to go and try to win the game.
“The aim will be to work hard and play to the game plan that we come up with.
“We know how good Celtic are but we’re not going there to make up the numbers.
“We’ll just approach the final like we have every other game this year, and we’re looking to win.”
