Mark McHugh sealed his first silverware as Westmeath manager after his team got the better of Kildare in the O’Byrne Cup Final tonight in Newbridge.
It proved to be a great game of football and Westmeath won by 1-18 to 1-16.
Westmeath were 0-8 to 0-4 down at the break and then fell 1-13 to 0-8 in arrears.

However, a brilliant goal from Ronan Wallace brought the Lake county back into contention.
They drew level before Luke Loughlin landed a brilliant two-pointer to win the match deep into injury-time.
Kilcar man McHugh is in his first year in charge of Westmeath after coaching the team last year. This win will be a real boost ahead of the start of the National League next weekend when they take on Sligo.
