McGrath closing in on 100th appearance

By Frank Craig

Paddy McGrath admits that he can’t quite believe that he’s on the brink of joining Donegal football’s illustrious century club.
The CLG Ard an Rátha clubman says it’s hard to fathom that he’s facing into his tenth season in the senior colours for his county. He made his debut under John Joe Doherty, in off the bench, in a narrow Ulster SFC loss to Down in Ballybofey back in 2010.
But it was under Jim McGuinness that his intercounty career really soared. Sitting down this week with the Donegal News, he reflects back on what’s been achieved to date.
He has also told Donegal supporters they should be really excited about what the current Tir Chonaill crop is capable of achieving in 2019.
As he prepares to hit that magic 100 mark, he said: “It’s something that I never thought about. But now that I’m closing in on it I’m just delighted, delighted and proud. Not every player gets to that mark. It’s a privilege to get to that number. When you’re there in the middle of it you don’t really think about it. But the years go by so quickly.”
