WELL-KNOWN local schoolteacher Odhrán McGowan will be one of a host of Letterkenny AC runners who will take on a marathon this weekend.
A strong cohort have been running the roads around Donegal in recent months to get ready for the Dublin and Frankfurt marathons.
McGowan will be one of 16 who will compete in the prestigious Irish Life Dublin Marathon along with Annmarie McGlynn, Paddy Friel, Kevin Ferry, Adrian Callaghan, Stevie Shields, Gary Kearns, Mark McFadden, Derek Campbell, Chris McMenamin, Pat Brady, Caroline Brady, Garrett Doherty, Noreen McGettigan, Martin O’Donnell and Ciaran O’Donnell, while those travelling to Germany are Ciaran McGonagle, Raymond Birch, Kevin McGee and Eamon O’Boyle.
The LAC group also select a charity to support, and this year they are fundraising for Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.
According to the latest figures, 22 people are currently living with Motor Neurone Disease in Donegal, while there are 400 people in Ireland living with the condition.

McGowan (44) hasn’t had a completely straight-forward build-up to the big race but he should be ready to go come Sunday morning.
