McGonagle hoping to ‘be in the picture’ on Sunday

The prospect of the Ulster Championship kept the Donegal players going during April and May when there was no training allowed and they had to meet up via zoom calls.

A quarter-final with Tyrone seemed a long way away then, but now it is looming large, and Caolan McGonagle is eagerly awaiting the big match on Sunday.

“Yeah it’s obviously something we have been looking forward to throughout the whole lockdown. It was what probably kept us going.

“It all boils down to next week now and how we prepare for that.

“Every man is looking forward to it, and every man wants to be involved, otherwise you wouldn’t be here.”

McGonagle, who is a teacher in St Eunan’s College, worked hard last Saturday against Kerry, and he impressed against Tyrone the previous week too.

He is looking to put in a big week at training this week and be in contention for playing time next Sunday when Tyrone come to Ballybofey.

“It’s always good to get a run in the team, and when you get your chance, you do everything you can to try and keep it.

“Hopefully I have done that and can push on this week, and hopefully I’ll be in the picture come next weekend.”
