Glenfin manager Frank McGlynn is hoping his outfit can bounce back from last weekend’s disappointment and deliver a good performance when they meet Four Masters today (Sunday).
Glenfin suffered a 16-point defeat to St Michael’s at Pairc Tabhoige last Sunday. There were only four between the sides at the break but the Bridge residents pulled away after the restart to seal the two points.
“It was disappointing, we just never got to the pace of the game at all. From the week previous we would have been quite happy performance wise leaving Magheragallon. We put in a good performance and we were probably left disappointed not to get something from the first round game.”
“We just never got going against St Michael’s and to be fair to them, they were in good form on Sunday and they punished us with a lot of two-pointers.”
“We’ll be hoping to improve the performance levels this weekend and see where it takes us. We were very disappointed after last weekend’s game and that’s the good thing about the championship, there’s another game around the corner quickly so we just have to regroup and put our best foot forward.”
The Pairc Tabhoige residents will travel to Donegal Town this Sunday to take on Barry Dunnion’s Four Masters side in round three of the Senior Championship.
The Tir Conaill Park residents began their campaign with a win over their neighbours St Naul’s but they suffered defeat away at Termon last time out to remain on two points.
The Glenfin boss expressed how Sunday’s trip to Donegal Town is going to be a difficult assignment given the effect that last weekend’s heavy defeat may have had on the team.
However, he’s hopeful that his side can improve their performance levels when they take on Dunnion’s young guns and put it up to them.
“It’s going to be a difficult game away to Four Masters. The confidence probably took a bit of a hit last weekend but hopefully this weekend before we go into the game we’ll just focus on ourselves and our own performance levels. Hopefully they can improve and we’ll see where that brings us.”
McGlynn’s men are still pointless in the Senior Football Championship following the defeats to St Michael’s and Gaoth Dobhair.
No sides want to have to go chasing points entering the final round of fixtures and therefore the Glenfin boss understands that they will probably need to come away from Donegal Town with something if they’re to have a chance of pulling away from the relegation play-offs.
“We know that if we’re going to avoid the relegation play-off then we’re probably going to have to get something out of the game on Sunday evening to leave ourselves with some chance going into the last round of games so that’ll be the focus.”
“The main focus will be putting in a performance first and then seeing if that’s good enough on the day.”
