McGee content to have thrown his lot in with Donegal

In another time and place, Jason McGee could easily have been plying his sporting trade in a professional capacity.

The towering Cloughaneely man was a talented centre-half on the various soccer fields across Donegal and his exploits on the GAA pitches also attracted prying interest from the AFL.

Young and, at the time, probably oblivious to his obvious skills, he now admits that he maybe lacked in the confidence needed to grab those various opportunities by the scruff of the neck. And, in particular, the early interest shown in him cross-channel from the likes of Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

Oz, and the chance to make a go of things at Australian Rules, did turn his head. But having finally decided to throw his lot in with Donegal, he is now gunning to show what he’s really all about at senior level.

He’s shone to date of course, but most of that period has been hampered by a niggly hip complaint. It took some time to get to the root of the issue. Now that he has, we could be on the verge of seeing him go to an even greater level.

McGee is just in the door from his first collective field training session with his club, since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, when he fields this call…
