COLM McFadden will equal Michael Hegarty’s record of 50 Championship appearances for Donegal when he faces May on Sunday.
Eleven years on from the St Michael’s man’s debut against Down in 2002, he’ll draw level with Hegarty – and will be hoping to get a chance to better the record in an All-Ireland semi-final.
McFadden has made a total of 137 appearances for Donegal – 22 short of Brian Roper’s 159 record.
Hegarty’s last game was the 2011 All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Dublin in Croke Park.
McFadden is one of Donegal’s most prolific marksmen of all-time. In Championship football, he has scored 8-145 and, in total, the Creeslough man has registered 18-374 in all competitions.
McFadden has been an ever-present for Donegal bar the 2006 season when he was absent due to the fact that he was finishing his post-grad in Liverpool.
His biggest Championship tally was the 1-7 he posted to dethrone Tyrone in 2004. In last year’s All-Ireland final, he registered 1-4 in the win over Mayo.
