McElhinney’s elected to Europe!

WHILE Pat ‘The Cope’ will not know until Sunday whether or not he will be back in Europe, another Donegal institution will definitely be representing Ireland there.

The now world famous McElhinney’s of Ballybofey will be flying the flag for Irish retailers at next month’s European e-Commerce Awards in Barcelona.

Launching www.McElhinneys.com and www.McElhinneysbridalrooms.com in 2012, McElhinney’s is already recognised nationally as one of Ireland’s most progressive online retailers.

The prestigious awards, which recognise the very best in online operators on the continent, are organised by Ecommerce Europe.

The Board of Retail Excellence Ireland has selected McElhinney’s, and their Marketing and e-Commerce Manager, Ms Roisin Woods, to represent Ireland on June 17.

Ms Woods said it is a wonderful achievement and honour for the McElhinney family, their team in-store and herself to be representing Ireland at the awards.

“At McElhinney’s, we are constantly striving to give our customers the best shopping experience both in-store and online. Since launching our websites in 2012, we have had more than 800,000 users and we have customers from all the world including Ireland, UK, Russia, Dubai, Hong Kong, Germany,” she said.

McElhinney’s will contest the Entrepreneurial Award and rub shoulders with top names such as Marks & Spencer, Nespresso, Tesco, Amazon and Asos.

Commenting on the awards, the CEO of Retail Excellence Ireland, Mr David Fitzsimons, said they were delighted that McElhinney’s and Ms Woods will represent the Irish retail industry in Barcelona.

“McElhinney’s is one of Ireland’s most progressive bricks and mortar and online retailers, their nomination as finalists at the European eCommerce awards underlines the strides the company has taken in the digital arena. The company was previously recognised for their digital strategy at the Retail Excellence Ireland Awards 2013, and we wish the team in McElhinney’s all the very best in the European finals. Our 11,500 store members will be shouting them on.”

Roisin will travel to Barcelona on 16th June to represent Ireland where she will give the international judging panel insight into McElhinney’s digital journey.

Founded by John McElhinney in 1971, the store now employs more than 180 full and part-time staff and is a major draw to the Twin Towns.
