TERMON’S Roisin McCafferty is hoping her side can cap off a good league campaign with a piece of silverware this Sunday when they face Glenfin in the Division 1 final.
Termon have been outstanding in the Division 1 league, winning all ten of their encounters to date.
Roisin McCafferty has been very pleased with how things have gone so far, maintaining their 100% record while also giving younger players a taste of senior ladies football.
“It’s been good. We’ve got a lot of good players bled into the team, everyone’s got a decent bit of game time and it’s been good from that point of view. We’ve had some good performances in there too, still a lot to work on but we’d be very happy with the amount of people that have got game time, especially the younger players. We’ve a few Under-16’s and minors in the squad this year so it’s great for them to get senior football.”
Termon will renew their rivalry with Glenfin in this weekend’s Division 1 showpiece.
The two sides have had many tight battles over the years with the pair having contested five out of the last six Donegal Senior Ladies Championship finals.
They previously met two months ago, a league meeting at the Burn Road where the hosts ran out comfortable 12-point winners on the day.
However, with Glenfin having a stronger panel of players to choose from this Sunday, McCafferty is expecting a much different test than the one which was presented to them in league phase when they face-off at Father Tierney Park.
“Both teams know each other inside out by now. I know from when we played them earlier on in the year, they have a lot of girls back in the likes of Yvonne and Karen so it’ll be a completely different test but we’re really looking forward to it”, said McCafferty.
She continued, “especially for those younger girls, it’s great to get the experience of playing in a league final and seeing what the level is like. I definitely wouldn’t take anything from our game in the league, it’s going to be a massive battle on Sunday.”
The Burn Road outfit are reigning Division 1 champions, a competition they have won the last three seasons.
The side defeated Glenfin in 2022, Naomh Conaill in 2023 and Aodh Ruadh in 2024. They’ll be aiming to make it four in-a-row in this weekend’s showpiece.
Despite their dominance over the past couple of seasons, finals are still something that Roisin McCafferty refuses to take for granted and is really looking forward to this weekend’s challenge.
“Anytime you’re in a final it’s special. It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve won it or how many times you’ve been in it. I think being able to contend for a trophy is at any point of a season, many teams go through and never win anything in a season so we don’t take that for granted whatsoever.”
“We want to win the league, we want to win the championship if we can and build momentum. Momentum is a great thing in football so we want to try our best and keep winning but it’s going to be tight now on Sunday.”
