Donegal GAA have confirmed that Patrick McBrearty’s season is over after he tore his anterior criciate ligament in Sunday’s Ulster Final.

The Kilcar man picked up the injury after he scored an excellent point in the first half against Fermanagh.

He was replaced shortly after half-time, and was seen using crutches at the homecoming in Donegal Town.

The bad news was confirmed when McBrearty went for a scan at Letterkenny University Hospital on Monday.

In a statement released today, Donegal GAA said: “Patrick McBrearty’s injury has been confirmed as a season ending ACL tear. He will be under the care of Dr Kevin Moran and we wish him well in his recovery.”

The injury is a huge blow to Donegal as McBrearty had been in magnificent form all year, and Declan Bonner’s team will certainly miss him in the Super 8s.

It’s also disappointing news for Kilcar who are aiming to retain the Donegal SFC this year.
