A DONEGAL County Councillor has vowed to make the prevention of a 5G mast being constructed in Raphoe his top priority.
Cllr Frank McBrearty voiced his fierce opposition to the development of a 5G mast at this week’s Lifford Stranorlar Municipal District meeting after being made aware that network providers are in talks to develop a new mast in the Corkey area.
Cllr McBrearty said the area is already known for having the biggest mast and voiced serious concerns about the health
implications.
He said private individuals have been doing radiation tests and said the statistics show that the level of cancer in that area is severely high particularly among farming families.

“I’m making my position clear I will hold public consultations and meetings to stop any company building a 5G mast in Raphoe. When I put my mind to something I do not take the throttle off. We will not accept a 5G mast in Raphoe.”
Speaking after the meeting Cllr McBrearty outlined to the Donegal News that there is an indication that all networks are in talks and are trying to get planning permission for the project but said he has not been able to get any clarification from the companies.
He said it is likely that any application will go through An Bord Pleanala rather than Donegal County Council and added that it would be easier for the public to make objections through the Local Authority.
Cllr McBrearty said this will be a very contentious issue and said he will be making it his top priority.
