FRANK McBrearty has been elected Cathaoirleach of the Lifford/Stranorlar Municipal District at the Annual General Meeting this morning.
Cllr McBrearty was proposed by Cllr Gerry Crawford and seconded by Cllr Gary Doherty.
The Raphoe politician controversially resigned from Fine Gael just days after being elected three week ago. The now independent councillor took over the position from outgoing Cathaoirleach Fianna Fail’s Cllr Patrick McGowan.
Cllr McBrearty said he was looking forward to working with the other councillors over the next five years and said his priorities will include tourism promotion and a twinning project.
Cllr Gary Doherty was appointed to the position of Leas Cathaoirleach after being proposed by his party colleague Cllr Liam Doherty and seconded by Fine Gael’s Martin Harley.
Full coverage from the meeting will be in Monday’s Donegal News.
