McAuliffe family thank customers as shop to close

MCAULIFFE’S Craft Shop will permanently close its doors next month due to the sale of the building, marking the end of an era in the family’s business life in Dunfanaghy.

The shop has been at the heart of life in the town, serving the needs of the local people and visitors to the area for over seventy years, operating as a Chemist, Tweed and Fashion Shop and as McAuliffe’s Craft Shop.

Three generations of the McAuliffe family, Jack and Mary, Anne (née McAuliffe) and Conor MacNamara have worked to develop and innovate the business model and product offering.

But, now, after forty fulfilling years in the business Anne is retiring and Conor is moving on to take up new opportunities outside the shop.

The family want to thank their customers and suppliers for their loyalty and support, as Conor said: “You all made this journey truly special and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful memories and the unwavering support of our family business through the decades. We want to express our deep gratitude to our incredible team, in particular, Linda Hanlon who has been our anchor and a much loved member of staff for over twenty five years.”

At 103 Mary senior, added: “I’ve been in business for most of my life and have seen the hard and the good times.

“Reflecting on the end of an era, my thoughts are bitter-sweet, while it’s sad to see the shop close, I’m very happy for Anne and Conor. I feel satisfied knowing the family have given the community good service, that makes me proud.”

Anne added: “Any customers with gift vouchers or credit notes be assured they will be honoured, but asks that you please use them as soon as possible.”

There’s a saying that goes “every dark cloud has a silver lining” and for bargain hunters looking for good quality products if you get yourself into McAuliffe’s Craft Shop quickly you can benefit from some great closing discounts.
