Mayoral Reception go-ahead to honour Teresa McDaid

MEMBERS of the Letterkeny, Milford MD agreed at Tuesday’s meeting to hold a Mayoral Reception to honour the great work done in sport by Letterkenny woman Teresa McDaid (pictured), in recognition of her role as manager of the Irish Athletics Team at both the Tokyo and Paris Olympics.

Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh proposed the motion which was agreed by the members.

“Teresa was the first female to be manager of the Irish Athletics Team,” he said.

“She has been involved in sport in Letterkenny and beyond for many years. It would be an ideal choice for club members to come together and celebrate their success.

“Teresa herself has a list of achievements too long to go through
here – five or six pages long.”

Letterkenny MD Mayor Cllr Gerry McMonagle said he would be delighted to host a reception for Teresa adding “her achievements are unbelievable”.

Executive member Seamus Canning said they would look at available dates in November.
