HUNDREDS of people are expected to take part in a 5k tomorrow morning in Killea in aid of legendary Donegal soccer star Mark Farren.

The event is being organised by the Finn Harps captain, Kevin McHugh, who is a former team-mate of Farren, Derry City’s record all-time goalscorer.

Farren is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, but this isn’t the first time he’s had to battle this devastating illness having first been diagnosed in 2008. He made an astonishing recovery and played for both Derry City and Glenavon before being forced to retire again last month.

The entire Finn Harps squad will be taking part in the event, which has had massive interest over the last two weeks.

McHugh has thanked Killea FC for hosting the event and noted the support of Paul Duddy, the former League of Ireland referee from St Johnston.

He said: “Paul has been a massive help in organising the logistics and basically getting the thing off the ground. He deserves a lot of credit for making this happen.”

Registration will take place at the Killea FC Club House at 9am with the run and walk beginning at 10.30am.

Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served afterwards in the club house and participants are encouraged to wear their club colours.

To pre-register, participants are asked to email markfarren5k@gmail.com and to include their name, age and club.
