Mass-goers targeted by thieves

AN APPEAL for information has been made after Mass-goers in Castlefinn were targeted by thieves on Saturday night when their cars were broken into.

Saturday evening mass was underway when the windows of several cars were smashed and valuables taken from them including a handbag, purse, phone and driving licence. This comes just days after the Parochial House in St Johnston was ransacked during a burglary.

The break in at the Parochial House occurred on Wednesday night at approximately 8pm and a number of items were taken. Sinn Fein Councillor Gary Doherty described the theft from cars in St Mary’s Church as “absolutely despicable.”

“This was an absolutely despicable act and I hope the perpetrators are caught and brought to justice. I would make an appeal for anyone who may have been in the area on Saturday evening and seen anyone acting suspicious to pass any information they have to the Gardaí. I would also urge people to take extra caution when out and about and do not keep valuables in your car as it is clear these criminals will do anything to get them.”
