Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald is demanding that the government immediately releases €1m in funding to rebuild Raphoe Community Playgroup’s facility.
It has emerged that Raphoe’s pre-school, which currently meets the needs of 46 toddlers, is set to be demolished as it was built using defective concrete blocks. The school is only 22 years old.
Deputy McDonald was speaking to the Donegal News during a whistle-stop visit to the county on Saturday. She was here as a show of support to the party’s local TDs Pearse Doherty and Pádraig Mac Lochlainn, as well as Sinn Féin’s local election candidates.
Deputy McDonald said the Government needs to find a solution to the situation those connect with the Raphoe playgroup now find themselves in. She said it shouldn’t be up to the local people to find an answer.
“It is a crazy situation that a community, that staff, that children, that families find themselves in a position where they have to vacate,” she said.
