The world famous Mary From Dungloe International Arts Festival is returning to Dungloe this weekend. This is the 56th year of celebrations.
Co-Director of the festival, Gavin Boyle told the Donegal News that they have been very busy for the best part of a year getting organised for this year’s celebrations. He promised that the festival is coming back with a bang.
As the 60 year anniversary of the celebrations approach the festival committee is working hard to restore the event to its former glory.
Pat Nora Gallagher who had been previously involved in the festival has come back on board as Director, to restore the vibrancy of the renowned celebrations following a few quiet years in the wake of the pandemic. The festival programme boasts a massive 106 events spread across the 10 days, with something to cater for everyone, young and old.
This year’s programme highlights include the launch of the Gay Byrne Walking Trails tomorrow, Friday July 28 in Leitir at 12 noon. The official opening will then be conducted by Moya Brennan from Clannad on Saturday night.
For country fans Daniel O Donnell & Friends will be performing this Sunday, July 30 and the Trevor Smith Garth Brooks Experience will take to the stage next Friday, August 4.
The festival will be wrap up on Sunday August 6 with the colourful Carnival Parade and the crowning of the 2023 Mary from Dungloe.
Mr Boyle thanked Donegal County Council who have come on board this year to sponsor the live streaming of the Crowning Cabaret on Sunday, August 6. The event will be broadcast world-wide.
“It is great people can bring Dungloe into their own sitting room in Australia, America or wherever they may be,” he added.
