MARK English had another blistering run to set a stadium record on the way to winning the 800m event at the Morton Games on Friday night in Santry.
English won in a cracking 1:45.30, ahead of Ryan Martin (USA) and Ryan Gregson (Australia).
It was another superb run by the in-form Letterkenny man, who wears the singlet of UCD AC as he continues his preparations for the European Championships next month in Zurich.
English’s was one of five stadium records set in Santry. English has had an excellent 2014, having set a new Irish Indoor 800m record (1:46.82) in Athlone at the beginning of the year.
Last month, he was second only to 2012 Olympic 800m sensation David Rudisha at a Diamond League meeting in New York.
English has David Matthews’ long-standing 800m Irish record (1:44.82) firmly in his sights as he gears up for Zurich.
Santry also saw another promising run for Karl Griffin, also now of UCD AC, who was tenth in the 800m in a time of 1:47.44 that was personal best for the World Junior-bound athlete.
