Mark English sets Irish record to qualify for Olympics

Mark English set a new National Record and Personal Best to qualify himself for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Finn Valley AC man was competing in the 800m at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland as he squeaked under the Olympics Qualifying Standard time of 1:44.70, crossing the line in 1:44.69.

The Letterkenny native finished second in the race in the Paavo Nurmen Stadion behind Sweden’s Andreas Kramer, with Frenchman Benjamin Robert in third.

It will be a third Olympics for the 31-year-old, having competed at the 2016 Rio Games and the 2021 Tokyo Games.
