Mark English has qualified for the semi-finals of the 800m at the World Championships in Budapest.
The Finn Valley athlete was 4th in Heat 2 and missed out on an automatic qualifying place with the three fastest guaranteed a spot in the semi-final.
English finished behind Polish athlete Mateusz Borkowski who won the race, with Max Burgin and Joseph Dieng second and third respectively.
But the Letterkenny man’s time of 1:45.71, a Season’s Best performance, had him as second fastest non-automatic qualifier of three going through, after two heats of seven gone.
But he held on to that spot through the remaining five heats to confirm his place in the semi-final which takes place on Thursday evening.
