Mark English qualifies for European Indoor final

Mark English has qualified for the final of the 800m at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn.

The Finn Valley athlete finished third in his semi-final in a time of 1:45.89 to qualify automatically for the final.

English sat in third place behind Spain’s Mariano Garcia and Belgium’s Elliot Crestan and while he was overtaken by Dutch athlete Samuel Chapelle, Garcia faded and English comfortably took the third spot.

Crestan won in a time of 1:45.84, just ahead of Chapelle who crossed the line in 1:45.86.

English is in search of his third European Indoor medal on Sunday after picking up silver in Prague in 2015 and bronze in Glasgow in 2019.

The Letterkenny native will compete in the final on Sunday evening with the 800m final pencilled in for 4.27pm Irish time.
