A MAN confirmed a plea of guilty to a charge of manslaughter following the death of a father of four as a result of a traffic collision in Clonmany last year.
Kevin Grant, of Buncrana, appeared at Tuesday’s sitting of Letterkenny Circuit to admit to four charges in total.
James Devine from Drumucklagh, Raphoe died in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin three days following the incident on May 12, 2024.
He was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene following the collision on Main Street, Clonmany.
The accused confirmed a plea of guilty to the charges including that he did unlawfully kill James Devine contrary to common law.
He was also charged with failing to report the occurrence of a collision; failing to keep his vehicle at the scene; and with failure to stop.
Defence Counsel, Colm Smyth, S.C., told the court his client had previous convictions and maintained a Probation Report would prove to be of some benefit.
Members of Mr. Devine’s were in court on Tuesday to hear the pleas of guilty.
Judge John Aylmer asked for the preparation of a Probation Report.
The case was subsequently adjourned to the next session of Letterkenny Circuit Court in February.
