Man’s body recovered from canal in Gaoth Dobhair

Divers searching for a person who had fallen from a bridge into the Clady River in Gaoth Dobhair this morning have located a body.
 
The body of the man, who is understood to have been in his 60s, was located 200 yards from the bridge at 2.40pm.
 
It is understood the man had been working on the bridge when he fell into the canal.
 
Emergency services were tasked to the scene following the call out at 11am this morning and a full scale search and rescue operation got underway.
 
Sligo-based 118 Rescue Helicopter was deployed, and gardaí and ambulance crews were also tasked to the scene.
 
It is understood the man was carrying out repair works at the bridge when the incident occurred.
