Manor woman was ‘well-loved’ member of the community

Susie Hamilton is the seventh person to die on Donegal’s roads this year

By Dionne Meehan
DONEGAL’S latest road victim, Susie Hamilton, is being remembered as a “well-loved” and “respected” member of her local community.

Ms Hamilton (74), from Manorcunningham, tragically lost her life when the car she was driving collided with a van on the R245 at Bunlin Bridge, Milford at approximately 7.30pm on Friday evening.
Her body was removed to Letterkenny University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is believed to be taking place tomorrow morning (Tuesday).

The male driver of the van, aged in his 50s, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Ms Hamilton is the seventh person to die on Donegal’s roads since the beginning of the year.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Milford councillor Declan Meehan said it is worrying that so many people have died on the roads so far this year, particularly in Donegal.
“It is very sad,” Cllr Meehan said.
“Everyone is shocked by the news in the Milford area.”

Cllr Meehan continued, “My thoughts go out to everyone who is affected by the collision. It is just a reminder of the importance of road safety.”
The news of Ms Hamilton’s death has come as a great shock to the community of Manorcunningham.

Her local football club, Lagan Harps, where her daughter plays a key role on the committee, cancelled their weekend matches as a mark of respect.
“Susie was a well loved and respected member of the community,” a spokesperson from the club said.
“She will be greatly missed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all her family and many friends.”

With funeral arrangements not yet confirmed for the mother of four, many locals have been remembering her as a “lovely lady”, while another said the news of her death was “hard to believe”.

Meanwhile, the R245 at Milford has reopened and gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this incident to come forward.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milford Garda Station on (074) 9153060, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
