AFTER SEVEN years Donegal singer/songwriter Tracey Cullen is back and supporting one of the headline acts at the City of Derry Jazz Festival this weekend.

Tracey is from Manorcunningham and first rose to fame in the North West in 1995, as a school girl at Loreto Convent Letterkenny, when she won the highly acclaimed RTE 2FM Yoplait Song Contest with her song “Take Me Away” and performed live on the TV show “The Beatbox” presented by Ian Dempsey.

The song “Take Me Away” was then forwarded by RTE to enter a European song contest “SCYPE” (Song Contest for Young People in Europe) as Ireland’s entry and due to her well crafted song writing Tracey won this contest also, competing against 14 other European countries.

In 1996 Tracey signed to Acorn Publishing, owned by the composer and author Brendan Graham, co-writer of the famous hit song “You Raised Me Up”. From there her career blossomed as she toured with artists such as David Gray, Damien Dempsey and Jack L.

In 2001 Tracey released her debut EP “A New Appreciation” to great acclaim and in 2004 she released a second EP “4 in the Morning” before winning the green card lottery and moving to New York City where she lived and worked as a musician for almost two years.

Over the years Tracey has supported artists such as John Prine, Brian Kennedy, Juliet Turner, Kieran Goss and Eleanor McEvoy to name a few. In recent years Tracey took a break from the music scene to look after her now 7 year old daughter Megan.

Tracey now returns onto the North West music scene with a bang as she will be opening for Beverly Craven (Best known for her 1991 Hit Single – Promise Me) part of the Derry Jazz Festival this Saturday, May 4

Tracey will also be performing throughout the summer at festivals throughout Ireland including the Limavady Jazz and Blues Festival on June 8.
